Denial of Death

Introduction: Death is inevitable, yet acceptance is not always immediate. This poem explores the human struggle of letting go, of resisting the finality of an ending we refuse to believe in.

In shadows deep, where silence stays,
A heart denies the fading flame.
Through fleeting time and fractured ways,
It fights against the reaper’s claim.

A lover’s voice, both sharp and sweet,
Echoes where sorrow dares to tread.
Between the promise and defeat,
They chase a life not truly dead.

The past becomes a ghostly chain
Yet longing keeps the spirit whole.
Through every whisper, love remains
A battle waged within the soul.

They guard the breath that tries to cease
With trembling hope and fragile vow.
No final rest, no quiet peace
The heart resists, but wonders how.

The line grows thin, both bright and cold
As time demands its heavy toll
Yet love, defiant, takes its hold
To bind the body to the soul.

Though darkness tempts with promises
Of endings soft and sorrow-free.
They turn from death’s cold premises
For love is where they long to be.

But fate is cruel and shadows creep
Its whispers cold, its judgment fast
Though hearts may break and lovers weep
Not all are meant for life to last.

Yet in the ashes, something stays
A flicker—hope, or memory's breath
No force can truly steal away
The love that lingers past their death.

So let the stars record their fight
A tale of sorrow, loss, and grace.
For though they vanished from the night
Their bond time cannot dare erase.

In life, in death, they dared to strive
Against the end, with fleeting breath
Though hearts may stop, love stays alive
Defying even death with death.
