The Warning Within
The phone rings once at half past two,
"Hello? Who’s this?" I ask—yet no reply comes through.
A whisper, the faint sound of a ghostly breath,
So eerie its echo, it fills me with dread.
I sigh, irritated, and ask once more,
Yet ghostly echoes shake me to the core.
At last, a voice emerges, soft and clear,
Uttering "Stay" as darkness draws near.
I meant to treat it all as a joke,
Yet yesterday’s events made me choke.
Strange occurrences, subtle yet severe,
Etched that single word deep and clear.
Night after night, the call came through,
Always arriving at half past two.
Each time it spoke a word so terse,
Stealing my breath with its haunting curse.
By now, I’d pieced together a coherent phrase,
Yet its grim warning set my mind ablaze.
"Stay away from those you hold so dear,"
For they'll snatch your joy and vanish your cheer.
After the final call, silence cloaked the night,
Yet doubt echoed softly, a ghostly insight.
Was the warning spoken from a spectral decree,
Or a mirror reflecting the darkness in me?
I crept through shadows, a silent spy,
Observing my kin with a troubled eye.
In each familiar laugh and joyful tear,
I saw fragments of my own hidden fear.
In that quiet vigil, truth began to bloom,
The warning unveiled a self-born gloom.
I learned the voice was my inner call to mend,
To heal the scars and let the past transcend.
Alone in the night, I pace with heavy mind,
Haunted by memories I’d long confined.
Every echo of that spectral call in the dark,
Unveils old wounds that still leave their mark.
Memories surge like a tide of despair,
Reflections of moments too painful to bear.
That ghostly whisper now exposes its art,
Urging me to confront my fragile heart.
In solitude, I gather the strength to face
The hidden truths I once dared not embrace.
The warning, though harsh, becomes a trusted guide,
Leading me gently to what I’ve long denied.
As dawn breaks, the spectral calls fade away,
Replaced by the promise of a brand new day.
No longer a curse, but a beacon shining bright,
I step into life, embracing the healing light.
